My Approach

My approach is to relate with gentleness, kindness, and curiosity about you while also being truthful, direct, and instructive. I aim to lead with my heart, and to ground myself in science.

I’ve spent the last 20 years of my career studying a variety of proven methods and techniques so that I can best work with the unique people and issues in front of me. I incorporate concrete exercises, personal history, emotional processing, somatic work, mindfulness, and creativity. Together we will collaborate on the best methods and techniques for you to achieve your goals.

I work with couples and individuals to help you move beyond the obstacles that keep you from the fulfilling relationships we all long for. I am passionate about helping clients who are dealing with addiction, trauma and emotional wounds. Other professional specialties are issues relating to sexual identity, gender identity, and chronic illness.

The Gottman Method has been a beautiful addition to my toolset. I have found—as I believe you will—that it is anchored in solid research and a reliable framework that is structured and goal-oriented while also making room for creativity and the richness of being fully human.

My Experience

I am dually licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT45320) and a Professional Clinical Counselor (LPC1379). I have completed numerous training programs in couples therapy and trauma treatment including Gottman Levels 1-3. I’ve been in private practice since 2004.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I was an actor, director, and stage manager in Chicago’s theatre scene. From that experience, I hold the idea that imagination and the creative self are key to new possibilities.

As a therapist, I’ve worked as a consultant for federal probation and state parole, a residential drug counselor, and a high school child and family therapist. For 9 years, I was on the clinical staff at the Pacific Center for Human Growth in Berkeley, an LGBTQ+ counseling and support center.  For 7 of those years, I was Clinical Program Director.

Aaron is accepting clients for couples therapy. Email him at aaron@eastbayrelationshipcenter.com.
