My Approach

As a therapist, my goal is to provide my clients with a place where they can gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships and to make the changes that they need to thrive. My first priority is to establish a relationship with my clients that is supportive and trusting so you feel heard and understood.

I work hard to help my clients achieve their goals and overcome challenges in a compassionate and accepting environment. I use different therapeutic techniques from mindfulness, emotion-focused and research and strength-based approaches that are all tailored to each client’s unique needs.

I provide individual and couples therapy services in English and in Spanish. I primarily use Gottman Method Therapy when working with couples. When working with individuals and teens, my experience includes working with issues related to cultural identity, anxiety, depression, life transitions, women’s issues, grief, loss, PTSD and all aspects of relational distress.

I hope that you will have a counseling experience that fosters a deeper awareness, understanding, and compassion with yourself.

My Experience

I entered the field of therapy as a second career after serving over a decade in public education.  Making a big career change (and working with young people) gave me an understanding of how complicated life transitions can be and reinforced for me that at all ages we need to practice the skills of self-compassion, patience and good communication. Working in schools, I witnessed first hand how children and adolescents can be affected by family changes, trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss.

Growing up as a daughter of immigrants and a first generation college grad gave me many unique experiences with navigating the complexities and challenges in our society. My personal life experience has given me a perspective and empathy that I bring to my work as a therapist.   I have also trained and worked  as a life coach and at times bring this solution-oriented perspective to support clients experiencing career changes and/or seeking motivation and increased clarity in their professional path.

Erica is accepting clients for individual, family and couples therapy. Email her at erica@eastbayrelationshipcenter.com.
