Communicate, Reconnect, & Love More Deeply

Self-Care for Couples
Seeking couples therapy or marriage counseling is a healthy step for any relationship.
Partners can learn how to better manage conflict, make thoughtful decisions about their relationship, and gain important relational skills.
Learning better communication strategies, working toward restoring emotional and physical intimacy as well as understanding how past experiences and emotions can unconsciously drive your responses, are just a few ways in which a couples therapist can help.
Relationships Can Be Challenging
Even in the best relationships, conflict and disconnection happen at times. This is normal.
Each partner has their own perspective and can see things differently. However, if you feel like you’re in a repetitive cycle of arguing or on a trajectory that is getting more and more distant, meeting with a couples therapist can help. If serious betrayals or breaches of trust occur, the right therapist can help you rebuild or reevaluate and can introduce new perspectives and skills that can help you move towards a healthier, happier relationship.
Love doesn't save relationships. Skills do.
What Happens at Couples Therapy?
Gottman Method Couples therapy starts with an assessment process. Our counselors meet with partners individually and jointly.
You complete online questionnaires through the secure Gottman Connect platform which gives us additional information about your relationship. We develop a customized treatment plan and, going forward, we focus on the targeted issues.
The frequency and duration of sessions varies, depending on the issues you are dealing with. Most commonly after assessment, we will work with a couple once a week for a period of time, then space out our sessions. During sessions, we work with exercises designed to help you manage conflict more effectively, increase friendship and intimacy and work towards creating a sense of purpose and meaning together. Sometimes we may assign “homework” in order to make the session last throughout the week.
Our Approach
We are experienced and trained in a variety of therapy approaches. Our therapists combine the most appropriate and effective approaches for your treatment.
The primary approach we use with couples is Gottman Method Couples Therapy, which is based on the most extensive research and data on relationships. We have also been trained in other relationship therapies, such as Emotionally Focused, and Family Systems, both of which complement Gottman therapy.
The Sooner, The Better
Retaining a couples therapist early when trouble arises is the best chance for your relationship to thrive and succeed. Research shows that couples typically wait on average 6-7 years after first experiencing relationship distress to seek help. Seeking help earlier is more effective than waiting it out.
If you start to feel things are rocky in your relationship, reach out and ask for help.
We're Here to Help!
Understanding how the past impacts the present is useful, but it doesn’t always lead to the momentum and lasting change that many of us are looking for.
NO SURPRISES ACT
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.
